Help
PredictPix is a free game about forecasting real-world events. This page explains how it works. If your question isn’t answered here, email support@predictpix.com.
The basics
Each question on PredictPix is about something that will happen in the real world, with a clear answer by a set date. You predict the answer using points. When the answer is known, correct predictions earn points and incorrect ones lose the points put in.
It is free to play. You never pay to predict, and you can’t win or lose money.
Points
- You start with 1,000 points when you create an account.
- You can claim 100 more every 24 hours with the Claim button at the top of the page.
- If your balance has run low, the daily claim tops you up to at least 500.
- Claiming on consecutive days builds a streak, which shows on the Streaks leaderboard.
Points have no cash value. They can’t be bought, sold, transferred, cashed out or exchanged for prizes.
Making a prediction
Every question shows a percentage. That is the crowd’s current estimate of the chance the answer is Yes.
- Choose Yes or No and how many points to commit. The minimum is 10.
- Your points buy shares at the current price. The lower the chance of the side you pick, the more shares you get for your points.
- When the question is settled, every share on the correct side pays 1 point. Shares on the other side pay nothing.
Before you confirm, the predict box shows how many shares you will get, what you receive if you are right, and what you lose if you are wrong.
An example: Yes is at 50%. You commit 50 points to Yes and receive about 99 shares. If the answer is Yes you get 99 points back, a gain of 49. If it is No you lose the 50.
Why the percentage moves
Every prediction moves the percentage toward the side that was picked. A larger prediction moves it further. This is why the same number of points buys fewer shares as you commit more.
- The predict box shows how far your prediction will move the percentage before you confirm.
- If it would move it by more than 5 points, you are asked to confirm.
- A single prediction can move the percentage by 17 points at most. Anything beyond that is left out and you are not charged for it.
Changing your mind
You can sell some or all of your shares at any time before the question closes. You receive points at the current price, which may be more or less than you paid.
Questions with several outcomes
Some questions have more than two possible answers, such as which party wins an election. These are listed under Events. The percentages of all the outcomes always add up to 100%, so a prediction on one outcome lowers the others.
To predict against an outcome, pick a different outcome. Only the winning outcome pays.
How questions are settled
- Each question page lists its rules: what counts as Yes, what counts as No, and the source used to decide.
- When the outcome is known, an administrator settles the question according to those rules.
- If the rules need clarifying while a question is open, a dated note is added above them.
- If a question can’t be settled fairly, it is cancelled and everyone gets back the points they put in.
- If a question is settled wrongly, we correct it.
If you think a question has been settled incorrectly, email support@predictpix.com with a link to the question.
Leaderboards and badges
- Today’s 5: five questions are picked each day on the home page.
- Leaderboards: ranked by points won, volume and return for this week, this month and all time. You can see your own rank on each. See the Leaderboard.
- Verified Forecaster: a badge earned by accuracy over at least 20 settled predictions. It can’t be bought.
- Founding 100: the first 100 players to make five predictions receive a permanent Founder badge.
Paid plans
The game is free. Two optional paid plans add analytics and tools, such as a performance dashboard and alerts. A paid plan never changes your points, a question’s percentage or its result. See Pricing.
